LR 475 Opens Broader Review of Nebraska’s Nonprofit Funding Oversight

Nebraska lawmakers have begun examining whether the state can consistently identify, categorize, and evaluate public funds flowing to nonprofit organizations.

At an October 9 hearing, the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee considered LR 475, an interim study introduced by Sen. Bob Andersen. The discussion revealed significant limitations in Nebraska’s financial data, including inconsistent recipient classifications, overlapping grant and contract categories, and difficulty separating annual expenditures from multiyear commitments.
