Nebraska's latest audit found major Lancaster County reporting errors, August revenue beat forecast, and the state launched a consolidated voter-registration platform.

## Lancaster County audit flags nearly $1 billion in accounting misstatements

### State report says duplicated holding-fund activity drove most of the total, while separate distribution and control problems affected public entities.

The Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts issued a Sept. 15 report identifying $961.2 million in misstatements in Lancaster County Treasurer semiannual statements, including $941.7 million in duplicated holding-fund collections and disbursements. The report also found a $1.27 million underpayment to the state over 2023–25, improper distributions, unsupported balances and control weaknesses; it says the county corrected or was correcting several items.

**Why it matters:** The findings put county financial controls, distribution accuracy and taxpayer-funded programs under scrutiny, while distinguishing accounting misstatements from allegations that money was misappropriated.

## Nebraska tax receipts beat August forecast, but projected deficits remain

### Revenue collections topped the certified forecast by $7.6 million after five straight below-forecast months.

The Nebraska Department of Revenue's August report showed net receipts 1.2% above the Economic Forecasting Advisory Board's projection, led by sales and use taxes running 16% above forecast. Nebraska Examiner reported the month added about $7.6 million over forecast, but lawmakers still face projected deficits of about $208 million in the current budget and $846 million in 2027–29.

**Why it matters:** The better-than-expected month gives the state short-term revenue relief but does not remove the budget pressure shaping spending decisions and future forecasts.

## Nebraska rolls out consolidated online voter-registration platform

### Secretary of State Bob Evnen's system combines VoterCheck and registration services ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

Evnen unveiled the platform Sept. 15, combining Nebraska's VoterCheck site with its online registration form. KLIN reported that users can register, update addresses or party affiliation, check early- or provisional-ballot status and find polling information in one place; the state's registration portal is available online.

**Why it matters:** A single public-facing system gives voters one place to manage registration and election information during the final weeks before the general election.
