A Douglas County judge left Omaha’s inflation-linked minimum-wage increase intact while blocking its youth-wage provision, as Nebraska’s gubernatorial candidates traded endorsements and Omaha’s City Council prepared to weigh a major housing redevelopment agreement.

### Ruling leaves the city’s inflation-linked increase in place for now

Douglas County District Judge Timothy Burns temporarily blocked only the part of Omaha’s new minimum-wage ordinance that would require employers to pay 14- and 15-year-olds the adult minimum, leaving the ordinance’s Midwest inflation-linked increases unblocked for now. His order came in the state’s challenge to Omaha’s ordinance; Attorney General Mike Hilgers and the city both said they were pleased with parts of the ruling.

**Why it matters:** The split ruling may shape how Nebraska’s largest city can set wage rules above state law, with another court ruling still possible before the next increase.

## Nebraska governor candidates trade endorsements

### Pillen touts NRA and Tom Brewer support as former GOP lawmakers back Walz

Gov. Jim Pillen announced endorsements Monday from the National Rifle Association and former state Sen. Tom Brewer, while Democratic challenger Lynne Walz held a separate virtual roundtable with former Sens. Tim Gragert, Mark Kolterman and John Stinner, who criticized Pillen’s budget, property-tax and accountability record. The dueling campaign events also surfaced a policy contrast on gun rights: Brewer cited Walz’s past opposition to his constitutional-carry bill, while Pillen said he supports a stand-your-ground law.

**Why it matters:** The split endorsements link the governor’s race to debates over fiscal management, property-tax relief and gun policy ahead of November’s election.

## Vinton Street silo redevelopment heads to council

### Omaha may advance a 233-unit housing project with more than $10 million in TIF

Omaha City Council is set to consider a redevelopment agreement for the long-vacant Vinton Street grain silos Tuesday; the proposal would replace part of the site with 233 apartments and townhomes. The project’s total cost is a little over $56 million, funded mainly through private investment with just over $10 million in tax-increment financing, and is slated for completion by the end of 2029.

**Why it matters:** The vote would advance a South Omaha housing and redevelopment proposal while directing public tax-increment financing to a private project.
